Emmaus Highschool YPF Event 3/17/18

Saturday, March 17, 2018

Where:  Emmaus High School

What: The National High School Physical Fitness Program organized by the United States Marines Youth Foundation – local competition event

Five members of the Marine Corps League Lehigh Valley Detachment 296 assisted Coach George Gibbs during the St Patrick’s Day competition. Our assigned job was to keep the teams moving from one fitness measure station to another. The five teams participating each had a Boys and Girls team. They started with a timed – crunch station, on to a timed – push-up station, a standing leap station – 3 tries, then on to a timed – pull-up station and lastly a timed run of 5 lengths of gym. We witnessed the drive for each team – the encouragement exhorted by their team mates.  It is good to see that there are those who are willing to push themselves for the sake of their team and for their own personal satisfaction. Before the competition started, a check in the amount of $500.00, was presented from Lehigh Valley Detachment 296 to Coach Gibbs. We also announced that we were there in memory of one of our deceased Detachment members, Marine Henry Brokate. We also mentioned Hank and Carol’s children participated on the Emmaus High School team during their high school years. Coach Gibbs appreciated our donation and extolled the crowd to recognize the sacrifice of those who have served in the U S military for their protection and freedom. A resounding applause was offered after his comments. We would like to recommend that our detachment members take the opportunity to help out with these events and to support the High School students that are participating. It is well worth your time and helps us to support our communities. Detachment members that helped with the event are: Fred Babcock, Michael Donatacci, Ria Mattix and Randy Schueck and Joe Malia. - Chaplain Joseph Malia
